A youthful UQFC Women will have their first taste of PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland competition on Sunday with an opening-round visit from Moreton Bay United Women.

The newcomers reached the knockout stages of Football Brisbane’s SEQ Women’s Premier League last term but coach Wayne Gibbon is relying on fresh faces to make the step up to Australia’s second tier.

“We are younger than in previous years,” Gibbon said.

“We won’t have the same amount of experience but we will have a fair amount of speed in our play.”

Gibbon believes a variety of avenues to goal will help propel his side to a top-six finish.

“We don’t have an out-and-out striker, but we do have lots of players that can score goals,” he said.

Moreton Bay United coach Lorna Dent is keen for a similarly collaborative effort.

Jets are fielding a women’s team for the first time in 2015 and are counting on forming a strong collective.

“I want to play good football and play as a team,” Dent said.

“We’re not about stand-out players. We’re about keeping possession and entertaining football.”

Dent hopes the introduction of a Jets side to the Senior Women’s division will help inspire local girls to climb the ladder.

“It exposes them to a more professional type of football and they can see if that’s where they want to go in the future,” she said.

The two sides will meet in the opening round at University of Queensland Field 5 on Sunday, with kick off at 5.00pm.
