DEC Fines Players for Sunday's Misconduct

MANILA, Philippines -- Players who figured in a skirmish in the game between Mighty Sports and Sealions on September 15 have been sanctioned by the league commissioner, the Danny Espiritu Cup announced on Wednesday.

After a careful review of the game footage and reports from the game officials, commissioner Mike Buendia meted out a one (1) game suspension on Mighty Sports' Marlou Aquino and a three (3) game suspension on Sealions' Jam Alfad.

The two players were called for disqualifying fouls and were thrown out "for fighting and violent behavior for their part in the altercation" with 6:41 left to play in Mighty Sports' 107-100 victory.

But Alfad had a heftier sanction for "another flagrant misconduct or act of violence after the game," as he even kicked Aquino while both teams were exchanging handsakes after the game.

Both players were fined undisclosed amounts in accordance to the Danny Espiritu Cup League Rules that must be settled before their respective teams next playing dates.

The league also said that unsportsmanlike foul committed by the players is accumulated for suspension.
