Subiaco ran out 3-1 winners against Perth Glory Youth on their return to Rosalie Park after a tireless 90-minute performance.

The hosts stuck diligently to their defensive game plan, as Nathan Diaz and Mitch Steinberg dealt expertly with Glory’s approach.

The Lions were also lethal in the final third as they scored all three goals from set pieces.

The match was labelled as a must win before the game by Subiaco Assistant Coach George Jarman and captain Nathan Diaz was proud of the way his side executed instructions.

“The win means a lot to us," he said. "We trained a certain way all week, focused on certain aspects of our game and we showed that today.

“Hopefully in games to come we will play like that, shut teams down and score more goals.”

The Lions got off to the perfect start when Jonas Dorling capitalised on a Jordan Franken error.

Ger Fitzgerald rose highest from a free-kick to head towards goal, but Franken flapped at the loose ball and Dorling was on hand to score.

Glory drew level when Nathan Costello produced a poacher’s finish from one of Glory’s few forays into the Subiaco half.

But the home side responded from the kick off as in-form striker Daniel Milne reacted quickest to a loose ball from a long throw to score at the near post.

Subiaco ended the half pressing the Glory and they put the game beyond doubt five minutes after the break.

Rory Feely was brought down in the box and Milne’s penalty found the corner for this third goal in two matches to seal the win.

Assistant coach George Jarman was delighted to see his side end their winless streak in front of their local fans.

“It was a brilliant game. The boys kept their composure, were really tidy at the back, but we just need to believe in ourselves more,” he said.

“We’ve got the crowd back. It’s fantastic for the community and as you can see its good for our game too.”
