Inglewood United’s in-form striker Brian Woodall is stamping his mark on the PlayStation4 National Premier Leagues WA after scoring a double in their 4-2 win against Balcatta at Grindleford Reserve on Saturday.

Woodall, who has scored three goals in two games, has carried his sparkling QBE Night Series form into the regular season.

“Brian (Woodall) has been doing exactly what he was brought in for and we are very pleased with his performance so far,” said Inglewood assistant coach Saul Contera.

“He comes with a wealth of experience having played in Germany and England and with him on a fitness plan we are confident of bigger things from him.”

Balcatta took the lead just three minutes in through Zelfy Nazary, who slotted the ball past goalkeeper Alex Dunn thanks to a through ball by Cameron Teece.

Inglewood equalised just six minutes later with a clever free-kick from Mark Pritchard that goalkeeper Clint Davies was unable to keep out despite getting a hand to the ball.

On the half hour, as both teams looked to break the deadlock, Inglewood’s Woodall struck from outside the box after shrugging off a challenge from the Balcatta defence.

Balcatta kept the pressure on and got the equaliser in the 44th minute as Teece’s long-range shot flew past Inglewood keeper Alex Dunn.

Woodall got his double just two minutes into the second half as he tapped in a loose ball in front of goal after stand-in captain Kieron Stallard failed to clear.

Inglewood worked hard to keep the lead with Balcatta coming close on several occasions via Nazary and Teece in the 59th minute and 69th minute, respectively, but both attempts were wide of the target.

Kenny Keogh fired home on the counter in the 90th minute sealing three points for Inglewood.

Contera said the side will be looking to carry their winning momentum into Monday’s Westfield FFA Cup clash against South West Phoenix.

“We have a recovery plan in place so we are prepared and confident for the (FFA Cup) game,” he said.

Balcatta vice captain Stallard was disappointed his side did not get the points but was satisfied with the team’s performance.

“We have some new young players which we are working well with but we need more game time to have a better understanding of each other,” he said.

“Decision making on passes and shots are areas to improve but am confident the team will find it.”
