Top Four Cup battle heats up

Football West News

Football West has teamed up with The West Australian newspaper in securing a naming rights sponsor for the PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues WA end-of-season finale.

The West Australian Top Four Cup will feature the best teams from the PS4 NPLWA in a fight for the local game’s final piece of silverware.

The agreement with The West Australian, WA’s only daily newspaper, will provide advertising opportunities in the lead-up to the three-match series that will conclude with a grand final on Saturday, September 10.

Football West Chief Executive James Curtis said The West Australian’s involvement in the Top Four Cup continued a long-standing relationship between the organisations.

“We’re continually looking to generate awareness of football in WA and The West Australian has been very supportive throughout the season and in past years,” Curtis said.

“Over recent seasons, the online sports team has published a great deal of content on www.thewest.com.au, including PS4 NPLWA previews, reviews and video highlights.

“The relationship has been further strengthened this year with The West’s marketing and sponsorship team and has resulted in the regular publication of Football West advertisements.

“They have embraced the Top Four Cup concept and it’s fantastic to have them on board as the naming-rights sponsor.”

Spokesperson for The West Australian James Kerr was delighted to be associated with the new competition.

“The West are proud to be a part of Top Four Cup as finals football returns to the NPL,” Kerr said. “It’s an exciting time for the sport and we hope to help continue its growth in Western Australia”.

“We are looking forward to working closely with the team from Football West to ensure the Top Four Cup is a huge success and here to stay for years to come”.

Separate The West Australian Top Four Cup competitions will be held in U18, U20 and first team categories.

A semi-final between the teams finishing first and second on the league table will be played on Saturday, September 3, with the winner of the first team match to host the grand final.

The loser of a second semi-final between the teams finishing third and fourth on the league table, also to be played on September 3, will exit the competition. The winner of the second semi-final will face the loser of the first semi-final in a preliminary final on Wednesday, September 7.

The regular season action continues on Saturday with Inglewood United, who are top of the table with five matches to play, taking on seventh placed Sorrento at Inglewood Stadium.

Floreat Athena, who beat Cockburn City in last weekend’s Cool Ridge Cup Final, take on Stirling Lions at Litis Stadium.

In other games, Cockburn face Armadale at Dalmatinac Park, Bayswater City host Subiaco at Finance 365 Stadium, Balcatta take on ECU Joondalup at Grindleford Reserve and Perth Glory tackle Perth SC at Ashfield Arena.

All first team matches kick-off at 3pm on Saturday, July 30.
