Coaching Development Program Update

The Committee of Management (COM) would like to provide everyone with a brief update in relation to the appointment of our Coaching Director, DeMarcus Berry.

We understand that many of you have been asking what the focus of the Coaching Director will be. More importantly there have been numerous queries regarding the responsibilities of the role and how we will determine the role’s success. With this in mind the COM have developed a detailed Position Description and agreed Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) that will be placed on the website and notice board for all to reference. Should you have any questions, any member of the COM should be able to assist you with an answer.

In broad terms the role of the Coaching Director is to develop and implement a coaching framework for the Mornington District Basketball Association (MDBA). We want to establish a basketball system known as ‘The Mornington Way’. Whilst the Coaching Director will be required to primarily implement this system within Junior Breakers, the framework and accompanying coaching program will also be encouraged throughout the MDBA domestic program. It is important our domestic teams also view the Coaching Director and coaching framework as a valuable resource for their basketball development.

This is an ambitious plan and to be successful we will need the engagement of our entire basketball community. We look forward to you embracing and supporting this initiative.

DeMarcus Berry will be designing the program and we are extremely pleased to announce that Jasmine Stovall will be assisting him with the implementation. Jasmine has recently joined us from the US and for those of you that don’t know her, please go out of your way to make her welcome.

The first stages of the program will commence in April with our Representative competition and in May with our Domestic teams. Details of the program will be made available shortly and will be published on both the noticeboards and the MDBA website. As with any system, its development will undergo continuous improvement and refinement. It is important to us that our entire basketball community is informed and engaged and we would ask for your patience as the program is rolled out.

DeMarcus and Jasmine will continue to be involved in skill development as part of their employment and commitment to Mornington. Beyond this, both are also available for private and group development sessions at reasonable cost.
