MDBA TALENT IDENTIFICATION PROGRAM

The Committee of Management (COM) are delighted to announce its new Talent Identification Development Program (TIDP).  The program provides for the recognition, support and fast tracking of talented players. The TIDP is an initiative Coaching Coordinator, DeMarcus Berry will coordinate.

Key to the TIDP is to provide the opportunity for players to play at a level where their skill, physical qualities and talent warrant.  DeMarcus will apply his expertise to determine, on an individual player basis, the best pathway for each TIDP player.

It is important to note Basketball Victoria has a policy that provides for talented girls to play against boys up to the Under 14 age group. Both boys and girls can also play up in age.

The first player to kick start the TIDP is Jaide Anthony.  Jaide will be playing not only against the boys but join her team mates in playing up in age.  The team ‘Stingers’ will play against Division 2 under 14 boys Thursday nights commencing, 5th June.

"Jaide is an exceptional young talent and a true competitor. It's great to see our young players progressing in their basketball careers and I look forward to helping further develop the talent around the peninsula."                    DeMarcus Berry.

An excited Jaide Anthony responded to the news with “thank- you for letting me stay with the team l have played with for over four years. This will allow me to improve my basketball so one day l can play in a major league.”

Jaides parent’s Christine and Brett, are delighted about the opportunity the TIDP will provide.

“As a family we are over the moon that you have let Jaide play up in the U14 boys division. We think this shows that MDBA is looking to give the children the best opportunity to reach their potential in the game they love. Thanks.”

We do hope there are many more players who will be beneficiaries of this "player first" TIDP.
