On Tuesday night, a large group of footballers gave Pat McLindin one of the biggest surprises of her 47 years at the Tuggeranong Hawks Football Club.

Fifty players and official turned up on her doorstep to perform a ‘PatYard Blitz’ on Pat’s garden to thank her for years of service to the club.
Hawks senior coach Nathan Costigan said the team wanted to give back to lady that gives so much to their footy club.
“She turns up to every training session on Tuesday and Thursday”
“She is just a fantastic lady and we wanted to help her out”
The Hawks told her they were having a whiteboard session to ensure she didn’t turn up to training and instead turned up to her house ready to get their hands dirty
“She was very excited and became quite overwhelmed,”Costigan said
The group pulled out an overgrown tree, washed her car, cleaned her driveway as well as performed much need maintenance on her garden.
The much-loved volunteer, Pat, and her husband Darryl first moved to Canberra in 1967 and helped form the team ‘Eastlake Woden” football club.
This team evolved into the Tuggeranong Football Club, and Pat has been involved in some way ever since.
Sadly, Pat’s husband passed away in 2010, and as Pat is hardly seen away from her beloved football club, her gardening had fell a little by the way side.
Costigan said his senior vice-captain Charlie Prowse originally came up with the idea, which was supported by everyone who had ever had contact with Pat.
“The club just wanted to give a little to the lady that gives a lot”
