The weekend saw finals football kick off for the Women’s and Community Football League, and as often is the case finals football threw up its fair share of upsets. It is now time to assess what the weekends results mean for the remaining teams in their respective competitions and who is in the box seat to take out the flag.

Women’s Division One:
Semi-final 2:
Riverina lions 2.6.18 defeated Tuggeranong Hawks 2.5.17
The two stand out teams of the competition went head to head in a clash which looked set to go a long way to deciding who will take home this seasons silverware, and the match certainly lived up to the hype with the Lions taking the spoils by just one point. The Lions lead from start to finish but the experienced hawks were never going to go down without a fight. The Lions only mustering one point in the final term, however that point proved to be all they needed to record a nail-biting win. The victory means the Lions can now enjoy a week’s rest before heading into the Grand Final in a fortnights time. Tuggeranong now face another challenge with a preliminary final against a red hot Eastlake side.
Semi-final 1:
Eastlake Demons 15.5.95 defeated Belconnen 2.2.14
In the weekends other semi-final Eastlake reminded everyone that this competition is far from a two horse race trouncing Belconnen by 81 points. The demons were dominant from start to finish only allowing the Magpies two goals all game in a dominant display. Karina Demant was a standout for the Demons booting eight goals in a day out. The Demons now face the daunting task of a preliminary final against the Hawks but will head into the game with high confidence after such a prolific result.
Women’s Division Two
Semi-final 2:
Queanbeyan Tigers 10.9.69 defeated Ainslie Tri Colours 1.2.8
The Queanbeyan Tigers went one step closer to taking home the division two title when they comprehensively defeated Ainslie by ten goals in the first semi-final. The task of taking on the Tigers was always going to be a tough one for Ainslie however the tri colours would be disappointed that they were unable to ever really challenge the strong tigers outfit. The tigers will now enjoy the week off before a grand final appearance whilst Ainslie will have to take on a strong Molonglo side in a preliminary final.
Semi-final 1:
Molonglo Juggernauts 10.6.66 defeated ANU Griffins 3.0.18
In the other semi-final Molonglo secured themselves a preliminary final berth with a comfortable win against the ANU Griffins. The Juggernauts were in control for the majority of the game with some wayward goal kicking the only thing denying them a greater victory. The Juggernauts will be confident heading into next week already defeating Ainslie once this season.
Men’s Regional Grade:
Semi-final 2:
Goulburn Swans 10.12.72 defeated Cootamundra Blues 9.16.70
The Goulburn Swans have booked their place in the regional competition grand final with a come from behind victory against Cootamundra in their semi-final on the weekend. The Swans entered the final term trailing by a goal but were able to kick four goals to two in the final term to hang on for a two point victory. The win means the Swans are now guaranteed a place in the grand final while the Blues will have to battle it out with Cooma next weekend. David Waters was the difference for the Swans booting five vital goals.
Semi-final 1:
Cooma Cats 9.16.70 defeated Yass Roos 8.7.55
In the second semi-final the Cooma Cats put an end to the Yass Roos season running out 15 point winners. The Cats were just out of reach of the Roos all day and will now look towards next weekend’s clash with the Blues for an opportunity to play in a grand final.
Men’s Fourth Grade:
Semi-final 2:
ANU Griffins 11.16.82 defeated Harman Hogs 3.7.25
The ANU Griffins have emphatically marched into a grand final after a huge win against fellow premiership fancies Harman. The students were far too strong for the Hogs side who could only manage three majors for the entire game. The Griffins now sit well and truly in the driver’s seat to take home the premiership whilst the Hogs will have to do it the hard way as they face ADFA in a do or die preliminary final next weekend.
Semi-final 1:
ADFA Rams 10.8.68 defeated Woden Blues 5.14.44
In the second final of the weekend ADFA ended Woden’s premiership hopes with a 22 point victory. The Rams led from start to finish and were never really troubled by the Blues who could be proud of the way they ran out the game, out scoring the Rams in the final term. The result sets up a tantalising preliminary final between ADFA and Harman next weekend.
Men’s Third Grade
Semi-final 2:
Woden Blues 12.7.79 defeated ANU Griffins 7.9.51
A five goal display from Michael Stevens lead Woden to a 28 point victory against the ANU Griffins on the weekend. The win puts the Blues one step closer to the premiership cup with the opportunity to now enjoy the weekend off before the grand final in a fortnights time. The students will now be forced to take on ADFA this weekend in a do or die final.
Semi-final 1:
ADFA Rams 14.12.96 defeated Molonglo Juggernauts 8.10.58
After trailing early the ADFA Rams enjoyed a big second half to run over the top of the Molonglo Juggernauts in the second semi-final. The juggernauts lead by two goals at quarter time and were two points up at the main break, however they could not sustain their pressure only managing one goal in the second half to allowing the Rams to record a big win. The result means that the Rams stay able in 2015 and will now face ANU in a do or die final this weekend.
