Jacob Mennen BIO
I grew up playing football in country Victoria. From a young age I’ve played the majority of my football as a key defender, and always been in a leadership role on the field where I captained my sides throughout my entire junior career. As a senior footballer I won a league medal and club B&F as an undersized ruckman before moving to Melbourne to work. After two years of playing football in Melbourne I took up coaching in 2007 as a 22 year old senior assistant playing coach.
From there I haven’t looked back in terms of my coaching, putting my playing career to one side and focussing mainly on coaching. In 2011 I moved to Canberra for work reasons and played a season of football with Belconnen FC before taking to coaching their Division 2 side in 2012. I was moved up the ranks to coach the Division 1 side the following year under Matthew Lokan and again promoted to an assistant coaching role for the NEAFL team in 2014.
During my eight years of coaching I have lead my teams into four grand finals and two preliminary finals, having only missing out on finals on the one occasion.
I am excited for what the future holds out at Gungahlin and looking forward to accepting the challenge that lies ahead.
