The AFL Canberra Heritage Round will be an all-day event at the historic Manuka Oval. This is an opportunity for all AFL Canberra Clubs to celebrate their individual histories, together.
The day will see all 1st Grade teams competing against each other on the day, including a 2015 grand final rematch between the Belconnen Magpies and Queanbeyan Tigers.
The Canberra Demons will also play Round 6 at Manuka Oval, demonstrating the elite pathway that aligns the AFL Canberra clubs with the semi-elite NEAFL competition.
AFL ACT/Southern NSW Manager, Steven Mahar believes this is an ideal opportunity for both past and present players to reconnect with their clubs.
“Heritage Round is a fantastic way to recognise the histories of the relevant clubs. AFL has a strong and proud history in Canberra and coming together for Heritage Round is an opportunity to engage past players and allow the current players to connect with the history of their clubs.” Said Mahar
“To have all of the clubs play at the one venue is a way to celebrate the game in Canberra and allows clubs to interact with each other throughout the day.” Said Mahar
General Manager of the Canberra Demons, Shaun Young is looking forward to making history by being the first NEAFL team to participate in an AFL Canberra Heritage Round.
“The Canberra Demons are very excited to be part of the Heritage Round whereby the representative team of Canberra is involved in a whole game day experience with the local Canberra football community.”
To allow clubs and supporters the chance to join in on the day, AFL Canberra’s 2nd Grade and Rising Stars competitions will have a general bye.
