After returning to play AFL this year after sustaining a complicated and painful injury whereby he tore his ACL off the bone in 2015, Liam Sorrenti is back to kicking goals in 2016 with a remarkable comeback in his U13’s team.
Prior to his injury, Liam was a key player in the U12's team and was a star performer who demonstrated impressive sporting talent with a promising representative ability.
Liam's injury was not only a personal challenge for him, but also a great loss to the team.
Although Liam underwent surgery and was required to wear a leg brace his commitment to our team was strong and he continued to attend our football games each week to support his mates from the sideline.
“Liam is a major part of our team and was sorely missed last year. He is an outstanding athlete with speed off the mark that is quite something to behold”
“While Liam is a good footballer, I find it more pleasing that he is a wonderful on field leader that is more focused on the team than any individual accolades. He came to all our games last year while he was recovering and even took some of the half time talks for me. Liam comes from a wonderful family who just as new to AFL as he is, and I know they are extremely proud of him, as are we.” Said U13’s Coach, Stuart Miller.
After a long road to recovery, Liam is finally playing football again with genuine enthusiasm and passion, going from strength to strength each week.
Relating well not only with his team mates, but also adults, he shows great aptitude in learning the unique skills required in AFL and strives to play his best always.
Liam's setback has not impeded his return where he has been listed in the top five for 'Best & Fairest' votes each week. His positive and steady influence has also contributed to our team's overall performance and pleasing game results as well.
After conquering a major injury, on behalf of ActewAGL and AFL Canberra we would like to congratulate Liam as he is a great example of true dedication. He is an inspiration to his team mates and peers.
