In Round 18 of AFL Canberra’s Third Grade Competition, it was an exciting day for Molonglo’s Patrick McCarthy.

Celebrating his 100th game milestone with the club after being around Molonglo for seven years it was a special occasion for him and everyone involved.
“I had played 100 games at the Tuggeranong Hawks prior to playing here at Molonglo; this time around it crept up pretty quickly. I am pretty happy with the achievement; it was certainly an exciting day” Said McCarthy.
The momentous game had a finals feel to it with the Juggernauts and Griffins competing for the top of the ladder. Having not beaten the Griffins for quite some time, it was pretty tight the whole game.
“We were down two points in the last quarter, and in true form Patty takes the ball and snaps one in from the boundary, it was the best goal we had seen all year!” Said Caden Helmers.
“It was right in front of our home fans and they were all going off cheering, Patty was jumping around like a mad man.”
While in the moment McCarthy’s goal may have looked like a fluke, Helmers ensured that a lot of practice had lead him to that exciting goal.
“It’s funny, at the end of training every night he tries to snap that goal and he always misses” Said Helmers.
“It was a bit surreal I suppose, I am still coming to terms with it a little bit. I think it was just one of those moments that went right.” Said McCarthy.
Finals favourites, the Juggernauts take on the Ainslie Tricolours this Satuday, 2:15 at Stirling Oval.
