Over the weekend Round 8 saw the Belconnen Magpies steamroll the Jets, winning 24.12-156 to 6.8-44 at the Nest on Saturday afternoon. The Magpies’ Slick passing and pressure around the ground assisted the Magpies keep their winning form alive. With four straight wins under their belt, 2016 is shaping up to be an impressive season.
The Jets started well getting an early lead in the opening minutes however that quickly evaporated as the Magpies got on top around the ground. The pressure proved too much for the Jets as Belconnen piled on 6.2 to 1.4 heading into quarter time 28 points up.
With a goal to start the second quarter, the Jets’ forward pressure increased as they tried to lock the ball in their front half. However, Belconnen increased their intensity once again and were able to increase the lead going into half time with goals from Taylor and Bennett playing a major role. Half time score 13.6-84 to 4.7-31.
The third quarter saw Belconnen continue to thrive, the Jets inability to string passes together cost them the quarter as the Magpies’ consistent pressure enforced numerous errors from the Jets. At three quarter time the Magpies scored 6.3 to increase their lead to 91 points.
Belconnen continued to string passes together while playing on at all costs. As the fulltime siren rang out the Magpies finished as convincing winners with the end result 24.12-156 to 6.8-44.
Creating a significant gap between the top three and the bottom three teams, this was a great win for the Magpies.
