The AFL Canberra First Grade fixture was released today to the anticipation of the ACT football community, following the announcement of the competition re-structure late last year.
Each of the six sides, Ainslie, Belconnen, Eastlake, Gungahlin, Tuggeranong and Queanbeyan, will play each other three times throughout the home and away season, with competitiveness and game day atmosphere the major focus of the league.
With each First Grade club also fielding teams in Second Grade and Rising Stars, a typical day at the football will feature all three grades playing the same opposition at the same ground on the same day. Marist are the only exception, who only field a side in the Rising Stars competition.
Canberra’s premier sporting facilities are the star of the fixture, with quality venues such as StarTrack Oval, Kippax Oval, Alan Ray Oval, Allinsure Park, Gungahlin Enclosed, Football Park and Greenway Oval hosting the majority of the seasons matches.
There are many big games to highlight in your calendar for 2015.
Round One will feature the Grand Final replay, with 2014 Premier’s Queanbeyan hosting Runner-Up Ainslie at Allinsure Park, while on the other side of town Belconnen will host Tuggeranong at Kippax Oval.
Gungahlin will also get their first taste of first grade football with the Jets clashing with Eastlake under lights at the home of Canberra football, StarTrack Oval, starting at 5pm. The match will be played after the Demons NEAFL clash with Aspley.

Can’t make it to a game? In an exciting initiative, one game of First Grade football will be live streamed each and every week.
AFL Canberra will select a ‘match of the week’ which will then be live streamed on AFL Canberra’s YouTube channel. Supporters will be able to watch the game from around the country, while clubs will also be able to utilise the footage for game reviews and promotional use.
AFL Canberra Football Operations Manager, Garry Lawless said the re-structure is the start of a new era of football in Canberra.
“This is our first step towards an eight, ten or possibly 12 club First Grade competition,” Lawless said
“We currently have 15 junior clubs who are assessing their pathway options, and looking at where they can play when they reach the top level of footy in Canberra”
The Second Grade and Rising Stars draw were also released today.
The Grand Final will be played on Saturday 19th September.
Please stay tuned for the release of the Womens, Third Grade, Fourth Grade and Fifth Grade fixture.
