One of the real surprise packets for Tuggeranong this season has been the rise of Ben Symons to star status.

The loyal Tuggeranong on-baller has been named best on ground in three of his seven appearances this season and has been amongst the best players in six of those games.
Last week, Hawks coach Nathan Costigan labeled him and Ben Cleaver as Tuggeranong’s most consistent players this season, which he was extremely proud of.
“I was pretty chuffed when I read it, I suppose it’s pretty accurate but I want to continue being consistent for the remainder of the season, consistency is what I really pride myself on” Symons said.
Symons is not getting too far ahead of himself, but admits he is playing as good a footy this season as he has ever played.
“I’m finally getting back on track to where I was a few years ago and the body is feeling good which helps.”
“I think I have improved my composure and defensive running but I’d love to get forward a bit more and kick more goals”, he said.
One thing that has been mentioned continually this season has been the club culture down at the Hawks.
Since Symons has been involved with senior football, he has put a lot of his growth down to the example that senior players have set.
“When I was growing up and playing, a lot of the older Tuggeranong midfielders in Jimmy Rice, Jay Kickett and Al Lawder were really influential ”, he said.
So far this season, the missing piece for Tuggeranong has been their inability to beat league leaders Belconnen. Symons believes there not far away they just need to focus and play four quarters.
“I think we have it over them games wise, it’s probably just a mental thing that’s let us down the last couple of times, I reckon we will have the upper hand if we play a four quarter effort.”
