The countdown is on to the International Rules clash between the Peter Jackson VFL and Ireland on November 16.
Sandringham’s Trevor Barker Beach Oval will play host to the first clash of its kind for the VFL, as the Irish team warms up for its International Rules clash with an AFL side made up of All Australian selections in November 22 in Perth.
A number of players from the initial squad that was named in August are unavailable, with Chris Cain and Kane Lambert out with injury and Ben Duscher and Shane Valenti having left the VFL in the off season.
The final training squad of 25 will be named late next week, with the first training session for the selected players on Tuesday November 11. As well as VFL selections, a number of players from community football will also be part of the final squad.
At the first session the group will hear from AFL National Talent Manager Kevin Sheehan and AFL Academy High Performance Coach Brad Johnson, to explain more about the game from their experiences in previous years.
The side will be coached by former VFL State coach Damian Carroll, with former Bendigo coach Aussie Jones and Frankston coach Patrick Hill his assistants.
A curtain raiser game will be played on November 16, with the VAFA to face a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) kicking off at 11:45am before the main game at 2pm.
