FIBA Oceania Officials visits Basketball Fiji

Basketball Fiji has been awarded the bid to host the FIBA Oceania U19 Youth Basketball Tournament for both men’s and women’s. The event is confirmed to be held at the Vodafone Arena in Suva on the 27th Nov-6th Dec 2014. The winner from the International Event will automatically qualify for the 2015 World U19 Basketball Championship.

FIBA Oceania Secretary General David Croker, Zone Development Manager Annie La Fleur and Hoops for Health Manager Jo Ferris were in Fiji from 24-29 March 2014.

The following objectives were achieved from the 5 days visit:

1)    Hoops for Health Program Work Plan

2)    Meetings with respective stakeholders: - World Health Organizations, Ministry of Health, FASANOC, ONOC, Fiji Sports Council, University of the South Pacific and Executives of Basketball Fiji

3)    Competition & Accommodation facilities evaluation leading up to the FIBA Oceania U19 Tournament

4)    Basketball Fiji preparation plans in hosting the International Tournament

5)    Federation Facility Grant Application Plans

6)    Evaluating competitions currently running in Suva  (Raiwaqa, Suva Association mid week games and Business House Competition)

7)    RAT analysis and strategic planning 

The federation would like to thank FIBA Oceania Officials David, Annie and Jo for their assistance and guidance in mapping out a plan to further develop the sport in the country.
