Reds win b'ball title

A NEW champion was crowned in the women's grade while Boston White retained the men's title in the Raiwaqa Basketball Super League finals yesterday.

Dynamic Reds beat defending champions Sparks 47-32 in the women's final at Ed's Court in Raiwaqa while Boston White thrashed Bryce 37-17 in the men's final. Competition official Peniasi Kainamoli said the Reds made a massive comeback from last season.

"Last season, they lost in the semi-finals of the competition and this season they were always second to Sparks," he said. "Sparks always had the upper hand and even beat Dynamic Reds in the round robin competition and the defending champions were favourites to retain the title. "But Dynamic Reds came out firing in the final and scored many three pointers via Vika Kuboutawa to upset the Sparks teams."

Meanwhile, the Boston White side was always the favourites to retain the men's title.

"They were unbeaten in the competition this whole season and were always favourites to win again. "So once again, they played the game their way and shut out the Bryce attack and kept on piling on the points."
