Champions prepare for Easter battle

WINNING the women's final has boosted the Dynamic Reds basketball side ahead of the upcoming Easter Championship. Dynamic Reds beat defending champion Sparks 47-32 at Ed's courts in Raiwaqa on Saturday in the final of the Raiwaqa Basketball Super League competition.

Reds captain Vika Kuboutawa said they would need to put more effort in training if they wanted to perform well at the Easter Championship which was two weeks away.

"Last season we lost in the semi-finals in the Raiwaqa competition and that was the motivation for us to do better this season," she said. "So we trained twice as hard and committed ourselves twice as hard and now that we have won this, we would need to double that once again for the Easter Championships."

Kuboutawa said the Easter Championship would be even tougher if overseas teams confirm their participation.

"This season was tough, even though we played against teams that we know but if overseas teams come for the Easter competition then it would be even tougher. "But we are determined and we are willing to give it our best in training to ensure we are as ready as possible for it."

The team is made up of secondary school students and gave credit to coach Laisiasa Puamau for his guidance.

"It would not have been possible without our coach, Lai. "He was always there, always supporting us always shouting the instructions from the sidelines and we thank him for helping us get this win."
