Basketball has big plans

Basketball Fiji will be conducting their primary school development program starting on March 12th in the main central and western divisions. "We have a lot planned for this year," said Basketball Fiji development officer, Lai Puamau. This is one of the main initiatives that Basketball Fiji has planned for quite a while in their means of developing the game at grassroots level. It is a good program seeing that children will be greatly nurtured into good basketball players. "We have identified eight schools in the Suva area and have a few potential sponsors lined-up. These sponsors will be confirmed by the end of this week," said Puamau. The confirmed primary schools are Holy Trinity, Veiuto, Latter Day Saints, John Wesley, Vatuwaqa Primary, Stella Maris, International and Vishnu Deo Primary. In Lautoka, the schools have not been confirmed but newly-appointed development officer Emily Chambers has begun development clinics every Saturday. Assisting Puamau is Nicholas Wong, who is running a junior development clinic in Raiwaqa. Meanwhile, the most anticipated Easter Games will start on March 30 through to April 4th. "We will be inviting 16 men's teams and 10 women's teams to participate. "The teams will first have to qualify from their individual associations." The Easter Games winning team will walk away with $1000.
