Shaq Attaq, Wed C starts with wins

Shaq Attaq and Wed C kicked started their Easter basketball title defence on a high with wins in their opening matches at the Vodafone Arena on Tuesday. Men’s defending champions Shaq Attaq defeated MacPacers 48-30 whilst Wed C defeated Chosen 42-3. However, the former led by Laisiasa Puamau need to maintain the momentum into their remaining matches of the Post Fiji sponsored competition as they go head to head with men’s runners-up and Lautoka based Vikings side and Suva based Saints team. Led by skipper and point guard Simi Cagilaba, the 2008 champions Vikings are looking to take the trophy back to the West. They finished runners-up in the Easter champs last year and seek to go one better this year.  Pool C leaders Saints will be a tough team to handle as well. Laced with national reps in the likes of Jeffery Sikivou, Raymond Whippy and Jese Sikivou, they beat Shaq Attaq in a round-robin meet in the Suva/Laucala league and look set to repeat the feat this weekend. They notched a notable 40-28 win over Boston in their opening game. In the women’s Golden Bati, Knight and Chosen should be providing stiff competition. Meanwhile, Basketball Fiji development officer Laisiasa Puamau has acknowledged Post Shop for their timely sponsorship.
