Suva b'ball teams eager for west meet

THE four Raiwaqa basketball teams to the Fiji Games Inter-association Tournament in Lautoka have been preparing well and are looking forward to the start of the tournament tomorrow. Raiwaqa Basketball official Saula Koroi said the three men's and one women's team for the one-day tournament were selected after last week's AU Graphics-sponsored Raiwaqa Basketball Tournament. Koroi said all their top players played for their respective clubs during the Raiwaqa tournament and selection for the teams to represent them was done on how players performed during that meet. "We were very fortunate that AU Graphics came in to sponsor our tournament and we managed to use the tournament to scout for players for our men's and women's team to Lautoka," Koroi said. "We would like to thank the company for helping us organise that tournament as it provided an opportunity for our youths to come out and showcase their talents in the sport of basketball." Koroi said the three men's and one woman's teams had been training very hard during the week and they expected a very good outing in Lautoka. Koroi said the tournament in Lautoka was also an excellent opportunity for some of their top players to be playing together. "In one of our teams we have former Fiji reps Frank Saketa, Eroni Cinavilakeba, Etuate Waqairawai and Peni Sokosoko playing together after a long time."These players used to play together when they were young but played for different teams when they started playing competitive basketball in the local basketball competition. "They are now back together, well at least for this tournament," Koroi said. A total of nine men's team and eight women's teams have confirmed their participation in the tournament.
