Tovata favourites to win in Raiwaqa

TOVATA confederacy is the favourite to win the Raiwaqa Confederacy Basketball Championship which starts at Ed's court on Saturday.

Tovata is made up of players from Lau and Cakaudrove/Bua/Macuata

Lau who won the Raiwaqa provincial championship, a fortnight ago will combine strengths with CBM.

Laced with top players like Laisiasa Puamau, Eroni Cinavilakeba, Akuila Vosamalua and Mataika Koyamainavure, Tovata will be tough to overcome.

The two weeks tournament is expected to bring out the best ever performance to round up a successful basketball season for the Raiwaqa Basketball Association. Defending champion, Burebasaga would be a force to reckon with.

Tournament co-ordinator Saula Koroi said the tournament would be a thriller to watch.

"Right now teams are preparing for this competition. It is shaping up to be a thriller and looking at the distribution of players I have no doubt it is going to be exciting."

"Tovata is favourites because Lau won the provincial championship and also they are combining with CBM which makes them a strong team now," Koroi said.

"They have some very good players but it will be very tough as other teams will be out to prove their worth," he said.

Kubuna and Burebasaga confederacy will field four men's and two women's team while Tovata has only three men's and one women's team to compete for the two weeks tournament.

Koroi added the tournament would mark the end of another basketball season for RBA.

"We will want to have an awards night to acknowledge all the players."
