Basketball Fiji's Winston Appeal Tournament raises $10,300.00 for PM's Natural Disaster Appeal

In support of the Government's rebuilding efforts in the wake of cyclone Winston, Basketball Fiji (BF) organized a Winston Appeal Basketball Tournament to help raise funds support the rebuilding efforts after the Category 5 TC Winston. TC Winston was second only to Super Typhoon Haiyan as the strongest cyclone to make landfall anywhere on earth in recorded history.

BF Chief Operating Officer Laisiasa Puamau addressed how important it is to support this endeavor.

"Although the basketball community was not affected directly by the havoc caused by TC Winston, the basketball community recognized the many Fijian lives that were affected as as initiated by BF President, made the decision to cancel our Annual National Easter Club Championship for both men's and women's and replace the event with the Winston Appeal initiative"

The fundraising effort is a testimony to Basketball Fiji slogan "It's more than just Basketball". Partnership for the tournament include; Coca Cola and FIBA in Oceania (major sponsors) and (co-sponsors) FBC TV, Fiji Sports Council, St John Ambulance Association and Molten Basketball. Basketball Fiji was able to raise more than $5,000.00 and with FIBA in Oceania matching dollar for dollar, BF and our partners raised more than $10,000.00 for the Winston Appeal.
