Fiji aim to upset Brazil

The Fijians go into the event 58th in the 69-team FIBA women’s rankings while Brazil, the 1994 world champions, are fourth.

Whippy, who will have five foreign-based players in the national team, told the Fiji Sun (
www.sun.com.fi) website: “We will select seven local players for the championship, they have shown commitment towards training and with the right attitude, we can beat Brazil in the opening game.

“The team will play Spain in the second pool match. That will be a tough match. Brazil and Spain have played in Olympic Games. The (Fiji) team needs to rectify its mistakes to create an upset.”

Whippy has two daughters in the team, including one - Mikaelar Whippy - who played at Long Island University. Whippy was last week in the United States to attend her graduation.
