LDS dominates schools tournament

LATTER Day Saints dominated the Twisties Secondary Schools National Basketball Championships, which ended in Suva, yesterday.

The Tamavua-based school made a clean sweep of the Under-17 grade, while the team won the U19 girls title.

In the side U17 boys final, LDS beat Natabua High School 29-26, while their girls team ripped through Indian College, 30-9.

In the semi-finals, the LDS boys accounted for Marist Brothers' High School 49-38, while Natabua beat Indian College 26-14.

In the girls, SGS went down to Indian College 27-23 and LDS thumped Laucala Bay Secondary School 48-9.

In the U15 grade, Yat Sen Secondary School won the boys grade beating International Secondary School 24-12.

Natabua High School took top honours in the girls, beating International, 18-9.

In the U15, Yat Sen rep George Latu was named male player, while Natabua's Lilly Chambers was the best female players.

Isireli Vuetibau was the best boys U17 players, while his schoolmate Hally Qaqa won the girls grade.

Elizabeth Sautu won the U19 girls best player, while Josh Motufaga was the boys top pick.

Tournament co-ordinator Laisiasa Puamau said they had an exciting tournament and the level of basketball displayed was high.

"Everything went great for us and we are very happy with the overall tournament," Puamau said.
