Round 7

League Women Thursday – Tracy Village Jets v Uni Rebels

Tania Dhu pumped in 14 points to lead the Tracy Village Jets to an easy 73-43 victory over the Uni Rebels. Dhu (13ppg) led a group of four players to reach double figures as the Bombers racked up win number 7 of the season. They remain undefeated. The Bombers took control of the game early with a 22-8 run in the first quarter and led 33-24 at the half time break. The Rebels put up a bit of resistance in the third quarter, but still trailed 51-39 with a quarter to go. In the last stanza the Bombers shut the door big time holding the Rebels to just four points while hitting twenty. Lending support to Dhu were Tahnee Maxwell (13), Sam Rioli (12) and Tikesa Docherty-Cole (11). Ambah Kowcun (11.4ppg) put in a good individual effort for the Rebels with 15 and Tulaha Jeffrey added 10.

Ansett v Lightning

Clancy Dorman proved to be the thorn in the side of Lightning as she took on the scoring burden for Ansett and led the Blues to a heart-stopping 51-50 win over Lightning. Dorman hit a game and personal high 30 points. Dorman (7.8ppg) scored the last 11 points for the Blues in the last quarter to get them over the line for just their third win of the competition. The game was up for grabs as the clock wound down. Lightning had pegged back a Blues half time 28-20 lead through the hard working Kira Pendlebury (11.5ppg) who led the Lightning with 27 and got them within reach of the win, but the Blues prevailed to move into a tie for fourth place on the ladder.

Eagles v Razzle

An undermanned Eagles side suffered the consequences against the Razzle as the green and gold swamped the Birds 92-27 for their first win of the season! The massive score line showed the importance of missing scorers Michelle Friel and Trish Graham, but the Razzle paid no heed to their absence and romped home behind the efforts of Erin Boyd (24 @ 15ppg), Jessica Osborne (21), Lailani Triffitt & Kaylena Marimowa (12 each) and Genelie Bridge (11). Razzle hasn’t been on the winning side of a score-line like this for a long time. The Razzle were up 36-17 at half time and powered on in the second half, out-scoring the Birds 56-27 for the memorable victory. Lillian Williams hit 10 for the Eagles.

League Men Thursday – Razzle v Uni Rebels

The Uni Rebels blew the Razzle off the court Thursday night to the tune of 92-57. Life without prolific scorer Tim Morris, who has left town, didn’t seem to trouble the Rebels as they went about the business of winning another game. Lance Schmidt (10.8ppg) led the way with a season high 24 points with heaps of support from Jake Kirby (22 including 5 treys), Aaron Simpson (19) and Bradley Jachmann (10). The green and gold hung with the Rebels for the first half, trailing by only 11 at the major break 38-27, but fell by the wayside in the second half as the Rebels charged home hitting 54 points to just 30 for Razzle. David Carroll (10.8ppg) was again the mainstay for the Razzle hitting a team high 16 while Saxon Radecki had 11.

Eagles v Lightning

Lightning won another close one against the Eagles, taking out the contest 85-74 to tighten their grip on second place on the ladder. Lightning got a full game from Craig Martin (14.6ppg) and it showed in the statistics. Martin led the Lightning with 21 points followed by stalwart Tony Halikos (15) and Harry Fuge & Thomas Godwin (12 each). Lightning had built up a 44-29 half time lead behind the shooting of Dylan De Santis and Fuge before the Birds launched an all-out attack in the second half that fell short. The Birds won the second half 43-41 but could not contain the efforts of Martin who hit 14 of his total in the half and Halikos (11 of his 15) to keep the Lightning on track for the win. Reece Turner (18.5ppg) led the Birds with a game high 27 and Jesse Williams-Hook (14ppg) hit 25.

Tracy Village Jets v Ansett

The Tracy Village Jets made it three in a row when they dumped Ansett 74-63. After a 0-4 start to the season the Bombers are back in the air and now in the top four on the ladder. Darrin Weetra (15.5ppg) had the hot hand on the night, hitting five treys in the second quarter as the Bombers put some distance between them and the opposition. They led 46-33 at half time and despite the effort from the Blues Lewis Carey & Matteo Rowse in the second half the Bombers claimed the points and are beginning to look like playoff contenders. Captain Michael MacLean added 17 in support of Weetra with Jake Geer hitting 12 and Sam White 10. Rowse (19.3ppg) led the Blues with 20, Carey 17 and Tully Hemsley 12.

Ladder:                                                             UniRebels 7-0, Lightning 6-1, Eagles & Tracy Village Jets 3-4, Ansett 2-5 & Razzle 0-7

Next Week Round 8:  Thursday: Eagles v Uni Rebels 7:45pm. Friday: Lightning v Tracy Village Jets 6:15pm & Razzle v Ansett 7:45pm
