League Women –Eagles v Tracy Village Jets

Abby Cubillo hit a game high 31 points to lead the Tracy Village Jets to another win, this time a close 71-63 victory over the Eagles. The last two times these teams have met the games have been real blow-out wins for the Bombers, but this time the Eagles were able to stay with them for most of the game. The addition of two former Uni Rebel players, Jaylene & Edith Boundry has given the Birds a bit more firepower and determination against opposition. However, Cubillo (25.4ppg) was not to be denied, and with help from Sam Rioli (16.7ppg) and Tikesa Docherty-Cole who hit 13 and 9 the Jets kept the kept their unbeaten streak intact. The Bombers had slowly worked their way up to a 7 point buffer at half time 37-30 and that buffer more or less stayed there for the remainder of the game. Lillian Williams (10.1ppg) put up a team high 20 for the Birds with Kimberly Brown (13.1ppg) adding 15 and Hayley Atkin 10. The win for the Bombers was the 17th in a row.

Ansett v Lightning

Ansett thumped Lightning 62-39 to inch just a little closer to third place on the ladder despite a number of forfeits this season. The Blues are now just 3 points behind the Lightning and 7 behind the Eagles. With six rounds remaining before playoffs the Blues still have an outside chance of getting into second place. Ashton Eaton and Elizabeth Paice did most of the damage against the Lightning hitting 23 and 18 points respectively. The duo set the Blues on their way to victory with a solid start in the first half, giving the Blues a 37-18 lead after two quarters of play. Lightning put up a bit more resistance in the second half, but the game was well and truly in the bag for the Blues by then. Tahnee De Santis top scored for the Lightning with 7.

Chris Hart and James Silvie combined for 31 first half points to stake the Eagles to a 46-29 half time lead that they turned into a big 86-57 win over the Tracy Village Jets. The Eagles didn’t let the Bombers get into any rhythm and Hart and Silvie kept up their assault on the hoop keeping the pressure squarely on the Bombers. The second half proved to be more of the same as the Birds rolled ahead with a 40-28 run to seal the game. Silvie (26ppg) top scored for the game with 30, Hart (24.9ppg) finished with 29 and Jarrod West hit 12. Darrin Weetra (17ppg) led the Bombers with 16 and Alex Weetra (13ppg) had 13.

Lightning set up the win behind Martin (15ppg) and Cameron Bailey (10 @ 14ppg), but the bench also played a big part in the win. Aaron Simpson (8.5ppg) led four Palmerston players in double figures with 16 as the Power tried to get into the lead, but the Lightning kept their poise to hang on to the win which put them into sole possession of third place on the ladder.
