League Women –Eagles v Ansett

The Eagles slipped past Ansett with a hard fought 62-59 victory to avenge their loss to the Blues in Round 13. The Eagles have now won 3 of the 4 meetings between the two sides and would appear to be much stronger now with the addition of the Boundry sisters from the Rebels and the return of Trish Graham to the team. The Blues jumped out to a one point 15-14 first quarter lead and hung on to that one point advantage to lead 31-30 at half time. However, by the end of the third quarter the Eagles had managed to overtake the Blues and they led by one point at 45-44. Graham then took over in the last quarter scoring 8 of her 13 to spark the Birds to the win. Lillian Williams led the Eagles with 14, Graham & Kimberly Brown hit 13 each and Jaylene Boundry potted 12. For the Blues Sam Drescher took game high honours with 25 and Ashton Eaton hit 21.

Lightning v Tracy Village Jets

Tracy Village closed out the Lightning 68-38 behind the shooting of Abby Cubillo and Danielle Totham who combined for 36 points in the win. The Jets had run up the score to 37-17 at the half, but after the break the Lightning came out firing and more focused to outscore the Jets 17-9. The run put the Lightning just 12 points adrift of the Jets at 46-34, but the Bombers lifted into another gear in the last quarter of outscore the Lightning 22-4 to power away for the win. Cubillo finished up with a game high 20 and Totham had 16 while for the Lightning Kira Pendlebury hit 9 and Kelly Doherty & Bonnie Illingworth had 7 each.

League Men – Uni Rebels v Tracy Village Jets

The Uni Rebels had to pull out all stops to overhaul the upset minded Tracy Village Jets who looked set to grab the upset of the round early in the game. But, the Rebels regained their composure in the second half to stick their nose in front and keep it there for the 90-84 win. The Bombers had stuck it to the Rebels in the first half to take a 47-40 lead thanks to the good shooting from almost every member of the team. Darrin Weetra hit 12 of his total in the first half and Ben Streeter added 7, but Rebels Tim Morris and John King struck back in the second half, scoring 19 & 18 during the comeback. King ended up with a game high 30, Morris 27 and Jake Kirby added 16 extras for the league leaders. Lance Schmidt also hit a double with 12. For the unfortunate Bombers Weetra had 28, Travis Ellis 12 and Alex Weetra & Jayden Adams 10 each. A total of 20 three-pointers were made during the encounter.

Lightning v Ansett

Ansett grounded the Lightning 87-58 to sneak into second place on the ladder on percentage points over the idle Eagles. The first quarter was even before the Blues took off on a 24-12 run in the second quarter for 38-26 half time lead. By half time the mainstay of the Blues offense, Donte Nicholas, had pumped in 24 of his season high 50 points (tying James Silvie from the Eagles for this season high point game…so far). Joshua Gericke was the only other Blues player in double figures with 11. The lone player in double figures for the Lightning was Craig Martin with 18.

Razzle v Palmerston Power

Palmerston Power 134 d the Razzle 49. The Razzle never had a chance against the Palmerston Power, not with the marquee players that the Power suited up for the game. Deba George and Jesse Bell were in the line-up and the scoring frenzy was on. George hit 45, Bell 23, Mitch Mudie 23, Shaquille Hohipa-Wilson 18 and Aaron Simpson 10. The green and gold got lost in transition. Stuart Peace hit 14 for the Razzle and Eric Klenke added 10.
