Round 11

League Women – Thursday – Palmerston Power v Tracy Village Jets

Kylie Duggan continued to pump in the points against all opposition in the DBA Challenge Season. Duggan (21.5ppg) top scored with 26 points in the Tracy Village Jets 95-29 thumping of the Palmerston Power. The Power had no chance against the fast break minded Bombers who powered away to a 22-9 first quarter lead that built up to a game winning 53-19 half time lead. Duggan now leads the DBA in average points per game with 21.5. In fact at this point in time the Jets hold 4 of the top 5 spots in points scored per game this season. Duggan had plenty of support in this game from team mates Sam Rioli 17, Delsey Ah Wang 14, Erin Geer 13 and Danielle Totham 10. Haven Hohipa-Wilson top scored for the Power with 8. The win took the Jets unbeaten streak to 18.

Eagles v Uni Rebels

The Eagles edged past the Uni Rebels 57-51 for their fourth straight victory. They had to stage a revival of sorts after a poor first quarter that showed only 4pts for their efforts. It wasn’t until half way through the second quarter that the Birds came to life as they flew past the Rebels to take a 20-16 half time lead. The Rebels fought back with a 15-14 third quarter run, but the Eagles settled and took the fourth quarter 23-20 to run out winners. The win placed the Birds into sole possession of third place on the ladder with a game in hand. Alysha-Marie Williams (6.1ppg) led the Birds with 16 with help from Faye Armstrong (10.4ppg) with 12. Veteran Chantelle Lee (6.4ppg) led the Rebel charge with 14 and Gemma Brogan hit 13.

Lightning v Razzle

Lightning ran past the Razzle 65-42 to keep a tenuous hold on fourth place on the ladder and a chance at a playoff spot. The Razzle didn’t fold easily though and hung with the Lightning throughout the first half to trail by just 4 at half time 32-28. After the break, however, the Green and Gold began to slip away as momentum shifted heavily to the Lightning camp. Lightning outscored the Razzle 33-14 in the second half and coasted home with the victory. Grace Morcom (11.3ppg) hit 19, Kira Pendlebury 16 @ 11.3ppg and Bonnie Illingwort 14 for the victors while Erin Boyd (15ppg) had 19 and Genelle Bridge 13 @ 12.4ppg for the Razzle.

Men

League Men – Palmerston Power v Tracy Village Jets

The Tracy Village Jets upended the short-handed League leading Palmerston Power 100-66 to grab sole possession of fourth place on the ladder after 10 rounds of play. The game was all knotted up at 22 apiece after one quarter of play but after that it was all Jets as they lifted off the ground to fly away from the Power in the remaining three quarters. The Bombers outscored the Power 78-44 in those three quarters to run out easy winners. The Jets now only trail the front runners by two games as we get close to the playoffs. Next Sunday’s match up with the Eagles should be very entertaining. Travis Ellis (24ppg) led the Bombers with 22, Jai O’Shaughnessy 16, Darrin Weetra 15 (all treys!), Liam MacLachlan 13 and Jake Geer 10. For the Power the leader was Fisto Bizima (10.65ppg) with 16, Aaron Simpson (12ppg) had 12 and Jai Weetra 10.

Eagles v Uni Rebels

The Eagles claimed outright third on the ladder with a 93-84 win over the Uni Rebels. The Eagles were led by Joseph Johnson (32.1ppg) who hit 32 points for the game. Johnson had plenty of help from team mates Joseph Prophet (25 @ 19.6ppg), Dirk Steenbergen (12) and Justin McKey (10). By half time the Birds had built up a 66-35 advantage and looked set to really blow the Rebels away, but the Rebs fought back to outscore the Birds 49-27 to keep the game close.
