Round Preview
Merimbula V Pambula
Big matchup this weekend with two of the biggest rivals going head to head with a top two position up for grabs. The Diggers currently sit in second but only on percentage. Both teams had key personnel in the senior rep game last weekend and the outcome could come down to who rebounds the best from the Sapphires big win. This should be a cracking contest between the two great rivals with the result potentially to come down to the wire. Player to Watch: Daniel Worden, The Diggers key man will be fresh after the weekend off due to his bucks party and absence from the rep fixture. Prediction: Pambula by 10.
Narooma v Bermagui
Another rivalry matchup this weekend between the two northern clubs. Last time these two clubs met the Lions claimed a narrow win over the Breakers although Narooma have improved dramatically since the fixture with the young Lions getting better game after game. The breakers are still searching for their first win of the season and will be confident heading into this weekends matchup with the Breakers competitive in matches bar a couple of lapses. Player to Watch: Jai Reed, The young Lion is back from under 16 nationals and will be looking to make his impact at senior level. Prediction: Narooma by 35 points.
Eden v Tathra/Bega
The Tathra/Bega side are undefeated so far in 2016 and it doesn't look like that is about to change this weekend as they take on the one win Whalers. The Whalers will be well rested after the weekend off and will be looking to be competitive at home against Tathra/Bega. Tathra/Bega have been clinical in 2016 with their midfield firing on all cylinders supplying their numerous forwards with plenty of opportunities up forwards. Player to Watch: Kel Evans, Best on Ground in the representative game on the weekend the former rookie of the year is looking more like a league best and fairest winner. Prediction: Tathra/Bega by 96 points.
Women’s
Two cracking matches on the cards this weekend as one plays two and four plays five. The Whalers at home will be looking to inflict Tathra/Bega’s first loss of the season this weekend. The Whalers are 12 points behind the league leaders although have games in hand leading into the pointy end of the season. Winner of this one will be labelled premiership favourites. Narooma v Bermagui is shaping up to be another cracking contest with fourth spot up for grabs between the two teams. This is the first matchup for these two traditional rivals and will be a toughly contested match between the two. Player to Watch: Ashleigh Russell, the Breakers captain will be rotating through the ruck and will look to have a big impact. Prediction: Eden & Bermagui
Under 16’s
With some huge matchups this weekend their is none bigger then this one with the Diggers hosting the Panthers. Both clubs have been playing well in 2016 with the two sides clearly the front runners of the competition. The Panthers claimed the first matchup of season and with two more in the run home, the matches will shape who will claim the minor premiership. In the second matchup of the weekend the Lions will be looking to consolidate third spot on the ladder as they host Bermagui. Having Jai Reed back in the side will be a huge boost for the Lions as he is a star of the competition. After returning from nationals duty with the NSW/ACT Rams, Reed will be looking to showcase his talent. Player to Watch: Adam Wilson, The Panthers ruckman will be looking to dominate hit outs on the weekend and give his classy mids first use of the ball. Prediction: Pambula & Narooma.
Under 13’s
If their wasn't enough big games this weekend the undefeated Lions and Breakers go head to head with the winner to remain undefeated. Both sides have been super impressive in 2016 with crisp ball movement and team play second to none. This matchup could come down to who wants it the most. The Diggers take on the Giants at home with the club looking to claim the four points. The Diggers have had some agonising losses in 2016 and will be looking for a statement win. Player to Watch: Harrison Bromwich, One of the Lions key players will have an impact all over the field in this one. Narooma. Prediction: Merimbula & Narooma.
Under 11’s
A win in Eden will see Bega/Tathra push very close to a finals birth with a god run home whilst Eden will be looking to spoil the party with their first win of the year. In Narooma the Lions will need a win if they are going to keep their slight finals hopes alive this season after regressing slightly from 2015’s form. In the 11’s a win for the Giants will see the side push towards a top 2 finish whilst the Diggers will make their way into third position. Player to Watch: Tom Wilson, The Narooma mid tries his heart out each weekend for the Lions and will aim to take it up to Bermagui this weekend. Prediction: Bega/Tathra, Bermagui & Merimbula.
