THE new kids on the block, the Broulee Moruya Giants, unveiled the club’s new jerseys before a jog with the Broulee Runners on Wednesday.
THE Greater Western Sydney (GWS) Giants affiliated team’s preparations are coming together for its inaugural season in the South Coast Australian Football League (SCAFL).
On Monday, February 16 GWS ruckman Tom Downie and 2014 debutant Cam McCarthy will meet and greet the fledgling club’s supporters at the Moruya Bowling Club.
Broulee Moruya Giants secretary Marty Jones wasn’t sure whether they would play barefoot bowls or tennis.
“We’ll have to decide what sports the guys can play,” Jones said.
The club’s first official training session will be on March 2 at Captain Oldrey Park, Broulee at 4pm.
Training will be held each Monday at Broulee and on Thursday afternoons at Gundary Oval.
Auskick for the five to six-year-olds and an intra-club nines competition for seven to eight-year-olds will played at each training afternoon.
The Giants will field an under 11s and under 13s team in the SCAFL junior competition and club president Doug Williams was rapt in the attention the club had received from potential players and sponsors.
“We’re really stoked by the support of local businesses and we certainly look forward to letting the community know who’s giving us a name,” Williams said.
“We’ve had an overwhelmingly positive response as a new outlet for kids to participate and the community is excited to have AFL here.”
Williams praised former Moruya Swans administrator Laurie Buckle for donating material the club has used and said it had revamped the old scoreboard.
“We’re about to receive training shirts and new goal posts are coming soon to Gundary Oval,” he said.
