This Saturday eight current and former Sapphire Coast players will take to Allinsure Park in Quenbeyan as they look to make the U16 and U18 PM Capital Giants academies for a shot at the NSW/ACT Rams.
Current Sapphire Coast players Jai Reed, Liam Clothier, Jeremy Sly, Luke Wiggins and Tom Ferguson as well as former Sapphire Coast players Matt Vardenega, Will Beaumont and Mitch Wallis will be playing at Allinsure Park in Quenbeyan this Saturday from 11:00am-5:00pm for a chance to impress the Giants Under 16's and Under 18's coaches and scouts to make each squad to partake in the Academy series against the Sydney Swans.
'It is a great opportunity for the boys to take on the best 16, 17 and 18 year old's in the state and see how they stack up football wise.' Football Operations Coordinator Jarrod Moore said. 'It would be a huge buzz for the region if we were able to get a couple of boys into the Giants Academy. It's not going to be easy and the boys will have to put in the hard yards but the reward would be huge for the boys and their football futures.'
The Acadmey series will take place over three weekends with games scheduled for the 6th of March at Tom Wills Oval (Sydney), the 19th of March at Lakeside Oval, Sydney and the 2nd of April at Kippax Oval, Canberra. The Academy series is the pathway for talented footballers looking to make the AFL NSW/ACT Rams squads to play in the national championships as well as the TAC Cup at U18 level.
Action kicks off this Saturday at Allinsure Park at 11:00am with free entry and canten available.
