Round 12 Preview
Tathra/Bega v Bermagui
Its been a tale of two different seasons for these two clubs with the Sea Eagles currently flying on top of the ladder going undefeated whilst the Breakers sit at the bottom of the competition standings without a win to their name. Don’t look for this to change this weekend with Tathra/Bega being the more determined side in 2016. The last time these two played was in torrential rain so both clubs will be hoping for dry weather. Look for Tathra/Bega to have the legs and run out comfortable winners. Player to Watch: Adam Blacka, on track to kick a 100 in 2016 with the last player to do so also from the Sea Eagles when M. May kicked 140 in 2013. Prediction: Tathra/Bega by 100 Points.
Narooma v Merimbula
The match of the round with the Lions to host the Diggers in what should be a tight contested contest. The Diggers are aiming for a top two finish and this match will be an important match in the run home to the finals. The Lions are yet to claim a scalp from the top three teams and this weekend provides a great opportunity for the club. With key Digger forward Dylan Jordan out due to a shoulder injury this one could come down to the wire. Player to Watch: William Stroud, with Jordan out, Stroud will be the focal point of the Diggers forward line and has the experience to lead from the front. Prediction: Merimbula by 13 Points.
Pambula v Eden
Over the past couple of seasons this has been the time of the year where the Panthers have shone and will look to do so again in 2016 with a top two place on the line. The panthers were pushed by the Breakers in the last round and with a couple of key players coming back into the line up the panthers should take care of business at home against the Whalers still in search of their second win. Player to Watch: Tom Hammond, Having a rather quiet 2016 compared to past seasons the forward will be looking to take his game up a notch leading into the final rounds and finals series. Prediction: Pambula by 70 Points.
Women’s
A few good games in the women’s competition this weekend as teams close on the ladder battle it out. In Narooma both the Lions and Giants will be looking to remain in finals contention with a win and will be hoping for a breakers loss. In Pambula the Panthers will be hoping that home ground advantage is key as they take on the Whalers and keep their slim hopes of a top two finish a possibility. Both sides will be looking to dominate from the middle. In Tathra, the Sea Eagles should be too strong for the breakers looking to cement a finals berth. Player to Watch: Bianca Findlay, One of the Sapphires best at the youth girls carnival two weekends ago, showed her tenacity around the ball with a big finals series to come. Prediction: Eden, Tathra/Bega & Narooma.
Under 16’s
A win for Bermagui this weekend will secure their spot in the finals for 2016 against Bega/Tathra. The two clubs have played in two tight contests so far in 2016 with the Breakers coming out on top on both occasions. In Narooma the Lions will be looking to stake their claims as premiership contenders against Merimbula this weekend and will receive a big boost with Jai Reed back from his duties with the NSW/ACT Rams. This should be a tight contest. Player to Watch: Will Regan, The Diggers midfielder was dominant at the junior rep carnival being among the Stingray’s best players. Prediction: Narooma & Bermagui.
Under 13’s
The matchup between the Panthers and Diggers will give us an insight into the first week of finals with the two clubs set to go head to head in week 1. When these two play it is always a tough contest between the two clubs with this weekend to be no different. In Tathra, Bermagui aims to take another step towards an unbeaten season as they take on the Bombers. With finals approaching, the breakers wont want to slip up. In Narooma the Lions take on the Giants with the side looking to build momentum as we lead into the 2016 finals series. Player to Watch: Will Kellar, Fantastic showing in Nowra. Kellar looked extremely comfortable on rep weekend leading from the front whilst being the leading goalkicker for the team. Prediction: Narooma, Bermagui & Merimbula.
Under 11’s
This Giants will be looking to consolidate their top four spot with a win against a youthful Lions squad. With a loss this weekend the Lions will be out of finals contention although a win will keep their hopes alive. In Tathra the Bombers will have a hard task beating the Breakers although a win will help their fight for a top 4 place and ruin the Breakers perfect season so far in 2016. In the final match the Panthers will be looking to beat the Whalers to push for a top two finish. The Whalers have competed in every game in 2016 and will be looking to be competative again as their young side looks for their first win of the season. Player to Watch: Logan Allison, the Narooma junior has been one of the Lions best in 2016 whilst also putting on a stong display in Nowra for the under 12 Stingrays as an underage player. Prediction: Giants, Bermagui & Pambula.
