Round 13 Preview
Bermagui v Eden
This weekend sees the top two side and bottom two sides go head to head with the winner in this matchup to remain off the base of the ladder and avoid the wooden spoon. The last time these two clubs met, the Whalers came away with the points although with Bermagui at home this weekend the Breakers should go into the contest as favourites. The Whalers were competitive last weekend against the Panthers and will be looking to bring that momentum into this weekends game against a Bermagui side that will see the returns of Luke Moresi, Luke Kingston, Matt Farnham, Nick Lazzaro and Sebastian Hannerbery who all missed last weekends match against the Sea Eagles. Player to Watch: Luke Kingston, Kingston has been out with an ankle injury the last couple of games and will be looking to make an impact right away either up forward or in the ruck. Prediction: Bermi by 13 Points.
Merimbula v Tathra/Bega
Another big match this weekend with the Diggers looking to bounce back after a tough loss last weekend against the Lions last weekend. The Diggers will be looking to bounce back and push towards a top two finish which is now in danger with two round remaining. Tathra/Bega will look to show the competition this weekend that they can take on the best teams on the big grounds with this weekends contest a good test for the Sea Eagles coming into the finals. Player to Watch: Wade Edmed, Will most likely have the job on Adam Blacka this weekend and a good outing is needed by the full back. Prediction: Tathra/Bega by 21.
Women’s
The Panthers will head to Kyla Park this weekend looking to secure their finals place as they take on the Giants. The Panthers were competitive last weekend against the Whalers going down by 28 points in a tight contest. The Panthers will be looking for a good outing this weekend as they build towards finals as they hope to compete with the top two. In Bermagui the breakers will also be looking to take it up to one of the front runners in the women’s competition against the Whalers. There has been a gap between the top two and the rest in 2016 with the Breakers looking to close that gap as they look to secure a finals birth this weekend. Player to Watch: Tammy Whitford, The Eden midfielder was the Whalers best last weekend in their win whilst also having a great season often in the Whalers best. Will be aiming for another big performance this weekend. Prediction: Eden & Pambula.
Under 16’s
In the 16’s this weekend the Panthers will be well rested coming into this weekends matchup against the Lions having last weekend off due to the bye. The Panthers will look to remain undefeated as the Lions look to hit top gear and recapture their form of 2015 as they look to challenge the Panthers and Diggers during the 2016 finals series. In Merimbula the Diggers will be looking to continue their strong play from last weekend as they take on the Bombers on home soil. At this time of the year, teams and players have one eye on individual awards which means we should see leading goal kicker Jedd Martyn thrown forward for long periods of Saturday’s match. Player to Watch: Tom Francis, One of the Bombers bigger bodies will be pivotal on the weekend in stopping the Diggers’ dangerous forwards as they look to be competitive against the flying Diggers. Prediction: Pambula & Merimbula.
Under 13’s
With the four finals places in the 13’s wrapped up the Giants and Bombers will be playing for pride this weekend as they look to cause an upset. In Tuross, the Giants will be looking to take advantage of their home ground advantage as they take on the Panthers looking to find some form prior to their finals campaign. With the Giants taking on the team one spot above them on the ladder they will be confident of causing an upset. In Merimbula the Diggers will be looking to make it four wins on the trot as they take on the Bombers playing for pride late in the season. The Bombers were competitive last weekend against top side Bermagui and will be looking to do the same. Player to Watch: Roy Buckingham, Best on ground last weekend against the Panthers controlling the match through the middle of the field. Will be looking to back up his impressive performance with another quality outing. Prediction: Pambula & Merimbula.
Under 11’s
A huge game this weekend as the Giants host the Panthers with a top two spot on the line. Both sides and Merimbula sit on 24 points with the Panthers having a game in hand. A win in this match will see either side take a large step towards finishing top two. The Bombers will play their final match this weekend with the side currently out of the finals race. The side will be looking to finish on a high note with the Diggers needing a win to remain in top two contention. In Bermagui, the Breakers host the Whalers who have improved every week in 2016. The Breakers will be heavy favourites on their own turf and should comfortably keep their unbeaten record in 2016 in tact. Player to Watch: Jemma Pollock, One of Eden's young girls in the under 11's played extremely well on the weekend against the Panthers with Pollock also playing for Pambula in the 13's to bolster numbers in another impressive performance. Prediction: Pambula, Bermagui & Bega/Tathra.
