Williamstown Junior Football Club has teamed up with Williamstown CYMS Amateurs in a new Coaching Development Program to commence in 2015.
Leading the new strategic coaching pathways program will be Matt Montebello as Director of Coaching and Ben Kelly as Coaching Coordinator who were officially appointed by the two clubs.
The new program aims to assist with the personal and professional development of coaches from an under 14s level at Williamstown Juniors, right up to and including senior levels at CYMS.
The joint initiative will also see players benefit from the program, with the alignment of three clubs (Williamstown Auskick, Williamstown Juniors and Williamstown CYMS) providing a direct pathway for their progression through football.
Williamstown Juniors President, Michael Furlong, said that the introduction of a coaching development program was pivotal to the club’s ability to develop the skills of its young players.
“Kelly’s appointment (as coaching coordinator) is aligned to our key strategy to continue to develop the skills of our players so that we continue to be one of the leading WRFL junior clubs.
“Whilst aimed at coaches and players from an under 14s level and above, we are excited about this joint initiative for all people involved as the skills learnt can and will be filtered down through all age groups.
“As a family club with a strong community culture we value our ties to CYs, and this program will further strengthen these links.”
Williamstown Juniors Under 16s coach Mark Smyth says he is looking forward to working with the new coaching team and is keen to get a pre-season training session in before the Christmas break.
“We are yet to finalise the details for the pre-Christmas training session for our Under 16s, so stay tuned to our website for more information in the coming days.”
