Deer Park’s new Senior Vice-President Matthew Pratt speaks to the WRFL media team about all the latest news from the reigning Division One premiership club ahead of their 2014 season.
Number of teams this year:
11 teams in total, including seniors, juniors and a women’s team.
Pre-season News:
Very productive to date with lots of new players coming to the club and sadly also some departures from players looking for opportunities at other clubs and leagues. The boys have been training really hard and are focused on Round 1.
Expectations for 2014:
To continue to grow on and off the field in all facets of our club, including providing opportunities for our younger developing senior players.
Staff/coaching changes:
Craig Clinink has departed as Senior Assistant Coach and been replaced by Jamie Madigan as Senior Assistant, along with the appointment of Kurt McGlynn and Les Setterfield as fellow assistant coaches.
Are there any new young players to look out for this season?
Jayke Ewer-Played for the club as an Under 10, before moving to Caroline Springs FC where he played the majority of his junior football. He then moved to Hoppers Crossing in 2012, where he got his first taste for senior football in the under 18s, polling ten times in the best in last year’s Under 18s team.
Mike Magligonis- Originally playing for Albanvale for five seasons as a junior, Mike moved to Caroline Springs to continue playing football as an under 15/under 16 player where he represented the WRFL in the AFL Vic Metro Junior Championships on two occasions.
Dyson Stevens- He’s been around the club for years, having started playing with the club as a junior in the under 10s. Played a few games last season with the Werribee Tigers which was good. Dynamite in the goal square, having kicked 228 career goals from his 229 game career.
