New Glen Orden President Mark Bartlett caught up with the WRFL Media Team to discuss how the Division Two reigning Premiers plan to keep their crown in 2014.
Number of teams this year:
Originally we were hoping to field four possibly five teams, with the introduction of an Under 10s team. Yet after a successful Junior Registration Day a fortnight ago, we can now look forward to having seven teams this year including Seniors, Reserves, U18s, U16s, U14s U12s and U10s.
Pre-season News:
The pre-season has been HOT! Numbers on the track have been consistent and we’re giving ourselves a real chance at defending the premiership. We know all too well that this year we’re the hunted, so we need to be ready come round one.
For our juniors, our U16’s coach has done another fantastic job with the kids. We had a couple of training sessions pre-Christmas and there was 20 kids on the track. Post- Christmas numbers have increased again averaging mid 20’s each night.
Expectations for 2014:
For our seniors, we’re looking to introduce a new standard for training and preparation for
games. As a club, we’re trying to grow from the ground up, with a strong emphasis on our AusKick
program. We want to continue to provide our juniors with an opportunity to play football.
We’ve got brand new facilities and our junior membership fees are the cheapest, so we believe
we have plenty to offer the kids.
Staff/coaching changes:
All three senior teams have new faces at the helm. Stu Daly replaces Nick Diker as senior coach.
Justin Menzel is coaching the reserves and Paul Stretton is our new U18’s coach.
We also welcome Kellie Larson as team manager of the U16’s, who replaces Mario Muhar.
Training details for juniors:
Training is Wednesday & Friday nights from 5pm.
