Members of the Sunshine Football Club and WRFL Umpires can look forward to enjoying new facilities at Kindersmith Reserve in season 2015, after the upgraded Pavilion was officially opened last Thursday.
The $291,000 government funded upgrade has seen the introduction of male and female umpire change rooms as well as become more accessible for people of all abilities within the community.
Sunshine Football Club President Craig Ryan said the development would not only benefit the football club, but fellow tenants the Sunshine YCW Cricket Club as well.
“We’re rapt with the new facilities,” he said.
“We obviously needed new male and female change rooms for our umpires, but in doing so we have also have gained more storage space for all of our equipment which we share with the cricket club during the off-season.”
Originally planned to have the facilities open for business in April this year, the new Pavilion has been more than 12 months in the making.
“Our previous President Bas Tensen was the main driver behind the new facilities almost 12months ago when planning began, so it has been a real team effort since then to get them completed,” Ryan said.
“I only wish it was the footy season now so we can get to use them!”
Minister for Sport and Recreation Damian Drum was also in attendance to officially open the Pavilion and said that the upgrade was an important aspect in keeping community participation in sport available for everyone.
“New accessible amenities including toilets also ensure that the pavilion doors are open to locals of all abilities keen to get involved as players, spectators, administrators, umpires and volunteers.
“I encourage local clubs, community groups and nearby schools to tap into all the new opportunities at Kindersmith Reserve.”
