THE Sanctuary Lakes Sharks have celebrated Mitchel Grima's and Marvin Seevers's 100th games in the best possible way with a 14-point win over the Wyndhamvale Falcons at Wyndhamvale South Oval.
In what was a scrappy game filled with constant changes in the weather, the final score was 4.13. 37 to 3.5. 23.
Wyndhamvale started the better of the two sides as they were able to get the ball forward and create space in the midfield, but skill errors cost them dearly as Jordan Johnson- Boe was able to take three intercept marks to limit the damage.
Late goals to Adam Elbob from a tight angle and Marvin Seevers had Sanctuary Lakes in front by seven points at the first break.
Like the first quarter, Wyndhamvale started well and dominated the opening 10 minutes of the second quarter, but had little reward with only a Jayme Gilmore major on the run from 20 metres to show for it.
A crucial goal to Jordan Johnson-Boe right before the half-time siren gave Sanctuary Lakes a 10-point buffer.
Most of the third quarter was played in Sanctuary Lakes forward half and could've been further ahead if not for inaccuracy in front of goal.
Jayme Gilmore kept the Falcons within striking distance with a major from 50 metres, but it was Sanctuary Lakes by 13 points at the final break.
A goalless last quarter occurred as both sides were committed to the contest, but Wyndhamvale tried to be more direct and go through the corridor only for Sanctuary Lakes defence to cut off the forays.
As time ticked on the Falcons became more desperate, but the Sharks held firm and secured a much needed win.
Sanctuary Lakes’ Jordan Johnson-Boe, Adam Elbob and Errik Watts were pivotal as they worked hard all game down back with Grima impressing up forward.
Wyndhamvale's Brenton Cox moved well in traffic, Jhoshua Dean presented well, Brian Burr competed strongly and Jayme Gilmore was the sole goal kicker with three.
In the other Under-19 Division 2 game, Albion extracted revenge from their last encounter against Newport as they chalked up a 15-point win.
Tyler Parkinson was best on ground for Albion, James Leach kicked two and Connor McPherson was impressive.
Newport's Youssef El Hawli kicked three goals and Nizar Haddara and Khaled Hawli were consistent contributors.
Round 9 will see Albion host Werribee Districts in what promises to be a tough contest, Newport Power will take on Wyndhamvale and Sanctuary Lakes has the bye.
