Australia books two final spots

AUSTRALIA Under 23 secured a spot in the finals of the 2004 International Men's and Mixed Challenge Cup with an emphatic win over New Zealand 46-25 on Day 6 of competition.

New Zealand still has a chance and will play Fiji U23 One in the afternoon (4pm Fiji Time) to fight for the other finals spot.

Fiji U23 One beat their team two 39-38 to make the semis.

The Scott Fort led Australian Mixed team also thrashed their Trans-Tasman rival 60-34 in their match.

Both New Zealand team are likely to meet Fiji teams in their final qualifying round.

The margins, the biggest since the two have met in the past few days was indicative of Australia coming in to the game with the mindset of nothing else but to win.

Peter Turk of Australia said if New Zealand is not careful, Fiji would cause upsets.

"We have seen what Fiji can do, and I am not making predictions.''

"I think the New Zealanders are panicking because Fiji has the potential of beating them.

For the finals we will just have to stick with the same intensity, nothing else."
