Jeff Green will head coach Rangers in 2015

The man who helped set up the Breakers and was then sacked as coach just nine games into the inaugural season is making a return to the National Basketball League sidelines.

Jeff Green has been unveiled as the new coach of the west Auckland-based Super City Rangers in the NBL.

The veteran coach, who has guided both Hutt Valley and Waikato to championship titles, will take charge of the Auckland club for next season.

He will be assisted by former Breakers forward Dillon Boucher who will take on a player-assistant coach role.

Green is the current coach for the Maori men's team and has been heavily involved in establishing a strong hoops programme at Fraser High School in Hamilton.

A colourful and outspoken character, he also has an uncanny ability to recruit strong teams, as evidenced by the four championships he won with Hutt Valley and Waikato.

Recruiting will be an important part of his new role with the Rangers having already lost their best player from last season - Breakers forward Duane Bailey signing with the Southland Sharks.

Current Rangers coach Aik Ho and assistant Benny Anthony have agreed to remain with the team and work with Green
