Harbour Breeze beaten in OT against D1 Colgate University

The Harbour Breeze lost a thrilling game in overtime to visiting Division 1 Colgate University 64-75.

Coach Justine Reed put a powerhouse Breeze team on the floor with former Tall Fern Deena Franklin, Morgan Roberts, Anna Lacey, Amanda Buck and Jaycin Tini starting.

Coming off the bench was Ella Fotu who is off this week to join Division 1 Boise State as a freshman.

Tera Reed was looking very sharp after her time at high school in the States, and Westlake GHS stars Zara Jillings, Katelin Noyer and Georgia Perrot-Hunt made up a very strong Breeze lineup.

The game went into overtime after a stunning fourth quarter comeback by the Breeze who led on several occasions until regular time expired.

In overtime Colgate made several clutch baskets and they took the win as our girls tired a little.

Colgate coach Nicci Hays Fort said after the game that the girls were enjoying their experience in New Zealand.

They had planned the trip for the past two years to honour senior Josie Stockill who grew up in the Hawkes Bay.

Josie had a stellar game for the visitors with 17 points, 12 rebound and 5 blocks. She will shortly rejoin the Tall Ferns as they prepare for their Olympic qualifying campaign.

Most of the Breeze lineup will be in action again next month at the National Under 23 Championship with head coach Kate Lacey. Good luck girls!
