AFL Victoria will showcase female football this ANZAC Day, as the Victorian Women’s Football League (VWFL) launches its season.
As has become a tradition in recent years, some of the best female footballers from across the State will take to the field at Shepley Oval on ANZAC Day for a triple header of matches.
The showcase match for the day at 3:10pm is the ADF All Stars, representing Army, Navy and Air Force, versus the VWFL All Stars, a team comprising of players from 14 teams across divisions one to five.
This will be the fourth time the two sides have met, with the ADF ahead 2-1 and currently in possession of the ANZAC Day Cup.
Also included on the bill are two curtain raiser games that will showcase some of the most talented players within the female ranks across Victoria.
Kicking off the day at 11:30am will be the clash between Vic Country and Vic Metro Youth Girls, as they prepare for the upcoming AFL National Youth Girls Championship in Canberra from May 4-9.
At 1:10pm, a Victorian All Star Draft selection match will take place, with female footballers in the game looking to impress for the second AFL Female Draft, which will take place on May 19.
The draft will help form the teams for the Melbourne versus Western Bulldogs female game on June 29 at Etihad Stadium.
The ANZAC Day games will help serve to launch the 2014 VWFL season, which kicks off next weekend (Sunday May 4).
