Buzsard To Lead Second Victorian Youth Girls Representative Team

AFL Victoria has appointed Peter Buzsard as Head Coach to lead its Development team at September’s AFL National Youth Girls Under 18 Championships. Buzsard, a talented athlete in his own right, is a rising star in AFL Victoria’s coaching ranks, having already enjoyed roles with the Victorian Futures Under 17 boys Academy, the Under 16 Metropolitan boys' team and the Northern Knights, where he is currently serving as match day runner and midfield coach.

Buzsard will be ably assisted by the 2010 Northern Youth Girls Representative team coach, Richard Dal Pos. The current coach of the undefeated Darebin Youth Girls team, Dal Pos is a level two coach who has worked alongside Buzsard at Ivanhoe Junior Football Club. Dal Pos is also a midfield coach at Marcellin in the VAFA.

The 2010 Team Manager for the Western Youth Girls Representative team, Lou Caluzzi, has been appointed as the Team Manager for AFL Victoria’s Development Team. Having been a member of the VWFL's Under 19 Victorian Development team that played in the 2005 AFL National Women’s Championships, Lou will bring her experiences as a young up and coming player to her role in mentoring and managing some of Victoria’s most promising Youth Girls players.

AFL Victoria nominated a second team to play in the upcoming AFL National Under 18 Youth Girls Championships when Northern Territory could not take up their invitation to compete. Six teams will compete in the competition, with ACT/NSW, Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia all entering a team. AFL Victoria will enter a Victorian team as well as an AFL Victoria Development Team, giving an additional twenty-seven Victorian Youth Girls the opportunity to experience the thrill of going on a representative tour and learning about what it takes to be competitive against the best players in the country. The championships will be held from September 7-11 in Melbourne, giving the two Victorian teams the opportunity to play in front of a home crowd. No doubt the September 10 game between Victoria and the AFL Victoria Development Team will be of great interest.

Selection trials begin July 26.
