Big victory for Rayyan; Al Shamal edge out Qatar SC

Al Rayyan continued their relentless march towards another possible title after demolishing Al Khor 97-75 in the Qatar Basketball League yesterday.

Al Khor trailed 45-71 at the end of the third quarter but caught fire in the final period to post 30 points which brought some respectability to their score.

However, the fact that Al Rayyan had led by 26 points before the final quarter began stood them in good stead as they still managed to close out the game by a whopping 22-point margin.

Dominic Davon top-scored for Al Rayyan with 25 points – 18 of which came from the three-point mark – while Quintin Immanuel had 20. Salem Abdulla and Alban Ngombo scored 17 and 13, respectively.

Ronald Rembert suffered the disappointment of ending up on the losing side despite scoring a game-high 28 for Al Khor. He also had four assists to his credit. Charles Abouo also played a stellar role for Al Khor with 22 points, albeit in vain.

In the second match of the day, Al Shamal edged out Qatar Sports Club 59-56 with the match recording 14 lead changes, although it was the winners who kept their noses ahead after every quarter.

For Al Shamal, Kamal Hachad poured in 29 points while Abdulqadir Kosar and Mohamed Adam scored 12 each.

Consteveous Jefferson top-scored for Qatar Sports Club with 20 points while Anthony White had 19 and Abdulla Ahmed 11.

Today, Al Ahli play neighbours Al Arabi at 5.30pm, while Al Sadd play Al Gharafa at 7.30.
