Rayyan, Gharafa have it easy

Al Rayyan produced a commanding win over Al Ahli in their relentless march towards a possible treble as the local basketball season winds its way towards its close before the advent of summer.

Yesterday, the Qatar Basketball League and Qatar Cup winners were in no mood for charity as they blanked Al Ahli 104-71 to maintain their unbeaten run in Qatar’s most lucrative tournament.

Alban Ngombo was the top scorer with 30 points, while Joseph Raffa and Hassan Mahamed chipped in with 20 and 19 respectively to power Al Rayyan past their hapless rivals.

Ngombo produced six three-pointers  and tormented the rival defence with some key plays as Al Rayyan opened up a 57-36 second quarter lead to put the match beyond Al Ahli’s reach.

Mohamed helped Al Rayyan accelerate with five three-pointers, while Raffa had two.

For Al Ahli, Ibou Sarr top-scored with 28, while Lavalle Joyner had 21 and Elhadj Seydou 18.

In an earlier match, Hassino Ndoye produced a match-high 25 points Al Gharafa thrashed  Qatar Sports Club 79-57.

Al Gharafa’s supremacy was never in doubt right from the outset they completed a comprehensive win that would stand them in good stead when it comes to decide the playoffs.

They were off to a 12-lead inside the first five minutes and kept on consolidating as the match progressed to win by 22 points.

Ndoye played for the entire duration of the game, scoring 22 points from field goals, including two three-pointers .

Osaro Adaako, another Gharafa stalwart, was not too far behind, scoring 23 points in the just 25 minutes he was on the court.

Abdelkader Salem shot 15, with a trio of three-pointers, while Dwayne Galloway scored 12. He also provided a whopping 11 assists to add to Qatar Sports Club’s misery.

For Qatar Sports Club, Anthony White excelled with 23 points with 18 coming off filed goals, while Constevous Jefferson had 14.

None of the other players managed double digit scores.

On Tuesday, Al Rayyan meet El Jaish, while Al Sadd play Al Gharafa.
