Brave North Coast side goes down

Black Diamond 11.11 (77) def AFL North Coast 8.9 (57)

At Newcastle's No.1 Sportsground, the young Under 18 side was more than competitive throughout the contest with only the second quarter seriously dampening their chances of victory.

The Newcastle based outfit were able to establish a handy break during this time and considering the class of their lineup which included several more Northern Heat representatives, the North Coast side did extremely well to come back considering their lack of match practice.

Blake Ford and the Burow brothers led the way through the centre, with a strong all-round team effort pleasing coach, Peter Chadwick.

It was a physical encounter, with nasty injuries being sustained by Ford (nose) and Tom Haskew (ankle) throughout the course of the match.

In a high quality clash, it was a strong indication of the ability of our league and hopefully something that generates a strong rivalry against the two dominant leagues in Northern NSW, considering the wealth of young talent in both areas.
