The Grafton Tigers will again look to make the AFL North Coast finals series after some signs of improvement in recent seasons.
The Tigers were inconsistent in 2009 and eventually finished 5th. They were competitive, especially against Grand Finallists, North Coffs but also had their struggles, typified by their final-round loss against Nambucca Valley.
The club will focus on either end of the spectrum for short and long term improvement. Rod Newman and Grahame Blackwell will coach all grades, with their primary focus to be on the Senior Grade. Grafton, for the first year, have also formed a junior club.
For all their hard work, key people in the club recognise the Senior side is still in a stage of re-building.
According to Blackwell, the aim is to be competitive against all sides in all grades.
Blackwell also sprung a surprise when asked which side he sees as a likely threat this season.
“Nambucca has some strong juniors coming through, having won the Under 18s last season,” he said.
“I see them as the big improvers this season.”
The main addition to the playing roster is 17 year-old, Kodie O’Malley from Coleambally in the Hume Football League. At 185cm, expect O’Malley to play a key-positional role for the Tigers.
The Tigers train Tuesday and Thursday nights at Ellem Oval from 6pm.
